Silenced Souls

Photographed at night in natural history collections, ANIMA isolates preserved animals from their museum surroundings. A single, carefully placed light allows their faces, textures and gazes to emerge from the darkness. Stripped of context, the specimens appear less like exhibits and more like individual presences.

ANIMA is not intended as a scientific record. These are portraits: quiet, melancholic and almost alive. Taxidermy preserves the body, yet at the same time bears witness to absence and loss. The remaining dignity of the animals becomes a silent accusation—directed at humanity’s treatment of nature and the continuing disappearance of species.

ANIMA is part of the overarching body of work EQUILIBRIUM, together with SAMSA, IKARUS and BASILISK. Across these interconnected series, EQUILIBRIUM explores the fragile balance between preservation and extinction, beauty and threat—and our own responsibility within the natural world.
