INFO

I’m a photographer and creative director working between commissioned photography and an independent artistic practice. My work continues to receive international awards and is exhibited around the world. This experience sharpens my eye and brings a distinct visual perspective to every commissioned project.

I know what I’m doing — from the first idea to the final image. Whether leading the creative direction or joining an existing team as a Hired Gun, I bring experience, reliability and an artistic perspective that makes commissioned work stronger.

I’m available for projects of all scales — let's talk!

Working Principles

Let’s be honest: none of us enjoys working with idiots, egomaniacs or people who have somehow misplaced their manners. Good work usually starts with good people — the rest is curiosity, trust and a little less drama. And yet, I do have a few principles I like to work by:

  1. Equality, diversity and inclusion are non-negotiable. Discrimination has no place on my sets.
  2. Let creatives be creative
  3. Collaboration over ego
  4. Respect the idea — and the people around it
  5. Stay curious
  6. Take the risk, but know why
  7. Make it happen — and enjoy the process

“Florian W. Mueller’s works are an emotional, spontaneous and intelligent reaction to the overflowing and rich imagery of the present. But that’s not all: his pictures – packed in very aesthetic and beautiful pictures to look at – are commentary, zeitgeist and point of view at the same time.”

Edda Fahrenhorst Curator
01 / 05

I live with my family in Cologne, Germany. Photography has been a part of my life since I got my first camera at the age of six from my father. If you’re interested, it was this one. Nowadays I am an internationally booked, exhibited, awarded and published photographer who is happy when a client wants to do something that hundred photographers haven’t done before.
When I’m not behind the lens or in the editing room, I like to cook (on search for the perfect Pasta Amatriciana recipe, if you have one, mail me), brew beer, play guitar, and think about future projects.

01 Do you sell artworks?

Yes! With pleasure!

I sell most of my independent works in small and strictly limited editions. Some also as NFTs. Please get in touch for availability and details.

02 How much do your artworks cost?

Well, it depends, of course.

Prices depend on size, edition and framing. The larger and rarer an edition is, the more expensive it becomes. Some framing options are also more elaborate. Just get in touch and I will happily prepare an offer.

03 How can artistic and commercial photography be combined?

I am in the fortunate position that clients often approach me because of my independent artistic work and commission me to bring that creative language into commercial projects.

For Porsche China, for example, I developed Multivision Porsche Shanghai: multiple exposures of Shanghai city views and a vehicle, based on my MULTIVISION series. The images were shown at Photofairs Shanghai for Porsche’s 70th anniversary. I often work on projects like this as both photographer and creative director, usually with a small and agile team.

04 Does your logo mean anything?

Indeed. It is an Ensō, a symbol from Japanese calligraphy. It can represent enlightenment, strength, elegance, the universe and emptiness.

In Zen Buddhist philosophy, painting an Ensō represents a moment in which consciousness is free and body and mind are unrestricted in the creative process. For me, that is a perfect parallel to intuitive photography and serendipity: finding images one may not have been looking for.

My Ensō remains open, suggesting that it is part of something larger and that fallibility, movement and development belong to existence. I painted it myself with ink on washi paper. It took several days and about 150 attempts to paint this apparently simple circle.

05 How is a team put together for a commissioned project?

I work with a large network of professional, creative and helpful people: assistants, filmmakers, production companies, CGI artists and many others.

I am equally happy to meet new collaborators or work with a local crew abroad. They often know the place better and have excellent contacts. I prefer small teams because they allow us to stay agile and work quickly. In the end, teamwork makes the dream work.

06 Do you have your own studio?

No. Since I rarely need a permanent studio, I do not maintain one. I usually work on location, often with available light, although a full lighting setup is possible whenever the project requires it.

Through my network of colleagues and production partners, I can arrange and rent the right studio almost anywhere when necessary.

07 What is your daily rate?

The classic answer is: it depends.

Larger advertising assignments, elaborate productions and intensive preparation naturally require different budgets. Before every commission I prepare a fair calculation and discuss costs transparently. Photography is both my passion and my profession, so let’s talk about the scope of your project.
