Sometimes the location you plan for is not the location you end up shooting in.
For a Red Bull campaign around Neymar Jr.’s Five, we had originally booked a large studio in Paris. Plans changed, so I built a compact pop-up studio in a break room at Red Bull’s Paris headquarters instead. A few lights, a roll of background paper and just enough space to work.
The limited setup made the shoot more direct. Neymar stepped in, we worked through a series of clean, energetic portraits and later moved to the street-football cage, where the game itself took over: fast, close and without much room for hesitation.
These behind-the-scenes photographs were taken by Davis Schütte (Agency Kastner Frankfurt), who was also the creative director of the project. They show everything that disappears from the finished campaign images: equipment squeezed between desks, last-minute adjustments, a concentrated crew and the brief moments between one photograph and the next.
The studio was improvised. The work wasn’t.
