Behind the scenes – Race 2 Zero

A Porsche GT4 e-Performance, a fully electric MAN truck and a film crew on a racetrack. The day after our campaign shoot, Christian and I stayed to document what happened behind the scenes.

The finished film brings together two electric vehicles in perfect choreography. Behind the scenes, things were naturally a little less polished—and considerably more interesting.

The morning after photographing the Porsche GT4 e-Performance with the Volta Zero, my assistant Christian and I returned to the track. This time, the Porsche was joined by a fully electric MAN truck for a DB Schenker film about the company’s partnership with Porsche Motorsport.

Our role that day was to observe rather than direct. We photographed the moments that usually disappear once the final edit begins: cameras moving close to the cars, conversations between takes, reflections on the damp tarmac, brief windows of light and the careful coordination required to make two very different vehicles move as though they belonged together.

The GT4 e-Performance was built to explore the future of electric customer racing. The truck represented the less glamorous but equally important side of electric mobility: getting things—and in this case a racing prototype—where they need to be.

The film tells the story of that partnership. These photographs tell the smaller story behind it: the people, equipment, waiting and organised chaos required to turn an idea into moving images.
