My series CŪ—the Old English word for cow—was shown at the YEAST Photography Festival in Matino, southern Italy.
A cow is more than the sum of its usable parts. In Western culture we tend to see the animal either as a whole we want to cuddle or reduced to clean steaks and minced meat. These photographs confront that distance by showing elements from inside the animal—beautiful, unsettling and deliberately difficult to ignore.
The exhibition became a visual conversation about how we look at animals, consumption and responsibility. My thanks go to curator Edda Fahrenhorst, NewLab Photo, ChromaLuxe, Leica Camera, fairfleisch and the entire YEAST festival team.
